People have a habit of saying things like:

“When I get ____ I’ll be happy.”

“When I meet _____ person and settle down I’ll be happy”

“When I make $____ I’ll be happy”

Science has shown that we don’t feel fulfilled from reaching a goal or getting something we didn’t previously have. The pleasurable feelings come from seeing progress towards that goal.

My personal experience and the accounts of countless others show that when you get to your goals it’s never what you hyped it up to be. You wind up valuing the experience and process of getting to the goal more than you enjoy the goal itself.

The Bible shows us that we are designed to be always growing toward our fulfillment of becoming like Jesus. A process of moving toward a perfection that we will never reach, which means we can always do better. We can always grow more.

I’m going to share with you the counterintuitive formula that I believe perfectly compliments the satisfaction we get from a Christ-focused life.

We know that progress toward our full God-given potential is what makes a human feel happy and fulfilled with their life.

We know that progress comes from doing hard work consistently over a long period of time.

Therefore: Hard Work Makes You Happy

Lasting happiness does not come from the moment of pleasure you get drinking all day on a beach in Mexico or the all you can eat excess of a cruise ship, followed by a week long hangover.

Happiness comes from the process of developing into the person God intended you to be.
